Credentials
EQ Economics is a specialist economic research firm supporting the planning and decision-making processes of our clients with independent economic analysis, risk assessment and forecasts. The firm was established in 2016 by Australian economist Warren Hogan.
EQ Economics is set up to bring sophisticated economic analysis and forecasting services to the broader community, with a focus on business and mid sized firms that find it hard to access independent credible economic research.
Located in Sydney but serving clients around the world, our focus is on Australia, but we take a global view of the forces shaping our economic and financial future.
Our team has substantial international experience in business, finance and research.
Warren Hogan is the founder, Managing Director and Principal Forecaster at EQ Economics. Warren has been a leading Australian business economist for three decades.
Warren worked in banking and financial markets for 20 years including 11 years at ANZ Banking Corporation, where he held the position of Chief Economist from 2009 until 2016.
Always drawing upon economic fundamentals as the basis for his work, Warren worked for many years as an interest rate strategist, at the coalface of the world’s largest financial markets.
Advising some of the world’s biggest investors, traders and central banks Warren learnt first hand about market structures, competitive dynamics and the role of phycology in driving economic and financial outcomes.
Applying his economic forecasting techniques in the cauldron of global bond and currency markets was not for the faint hearted. The feedback was immediate and clinical, from both colleagues and customers. Forecasts were not opinions or musing, they formed the basis for investment decisions that would be tested immediately. This was no place for a ‘two handed’ economist. It was a fire pit of risk, continuous probability assessment and decision making.
While commercial outcomes are all important, Warren was customer focused. Warren worked with research teams at Westpac, Credit Suisse and ANZ which were highly ranked in industry surveys for both financial market strategic advice, and economic forecasting.
Warren was appointed the Chief Economist of Credit Suisse in Australia and New Zealand less than 10 year after starting his career, and was appointed Chief Economist of ANZ Banking Group before the age of 40.
Warren spent a year as a Principal Advisor to the Australian Federal Treasury in 2017 and worked as an Industry Professor at UTS Business School between 2018 and 2020. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from UTS in 2022 and was named the AFR’s inaugural Forecaster of the Year in February 2024.
Since 2021 Warren has dedicated his time to building EQ Economics to deliver world class economic analysis and forecasting services to Australian business leaders, and anyone else interested in Australia’s economic future.
Warren’s Journey
EQ Economics was established as a vehicle for Warren to support various organisations with economic, industry and market analysis – his first client was The Australian Office of Financial Management (AOFM), the Australian Government’s debt issuance arm.
